About the Archive
The House of Unauna Archive is an independent repository of primary source records documenting the genealogy, land rights, and royal court history of the House of Unauna and the Board of Genealogy of Hawaiian Chiefs.
Mission
This archive exists to preserve, organize, and make accessible the historical records of the House of Unauna — one of the recognized hereditary chiefly lines of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The collection is maintained as an authoritative, independent repository, free from institutional bias or political interference.
Our purpose is to ensure that these records remain available to researchers, family members, and the broader public as a permanent and reliable source of Hawaiian genealogical history.
Provenance
The records held in this collection originate from the Board of Genealogy of Hawaiian Chiefs (BGHC), a body established to document and authenticate the genealogical lines of the Hawaiian aliʻi. Materials include original documents, certified copies, court records, and correspondence spanning the Kingdom period through the present.
Primary source materials are hosted at the Internet Archive under the @kuauhau collection, ensuring long-term digital preservation and open public access.
Methodology
All records are catalogued according to their original source, date, and chain of custody. Where possible, original documents are digitized and cross-referenced against independent historical sources to verify authenticity.
The archive does not alter, interpret, or editorialize primary source materials. Records are presented as found, with contextual notes provided separately to distinguish original content from curatorial annotation.
Independence
The House of Unauna Archive operates independently of any government agency, university, or political organization. It is maintained by the direct hereditary line of the House of Unauna and is accountable solely to the integrity of the historical record.
Researchers and family members seeking access to specific records or wishing to contribute materials to the collection are encouraged to submit an inquiry through the contact page.
